Homeschooling neurodivergent can be very tough. You might not know what the right materials are that will fit their particular needs or maybe you are not quite sure how to set up the learning sessions so that your child can focus better. Whatever the challenge is- Accessible Pathways was created to help.
Our curriculum and other products are specifically designed for children in grades K-5th who fall under the neurodiverse umbrella. In this post, you will get a better understanding of how our tailored educational approaches cater to diverse learning needs.
Thoughtful Design for Homeschooling Neurodivergent Children
Did you know that over 15% of children have neurodiverse learning needs? Unfortunately, many educational materials fall short in addressing their needs.
This is where Accessible Pathways comes in and provides a curriculum that is neurodiverse and sensory-friendly. The following are the specifics that make it this way:
- Adaptability-
- There are multiple pathways to success with our curriculum when homeschooling neurodivergent children. This is because we provide adaptations for challenges that come with neurodiverse conditions. These can be found in the guidebook and at the end of each lesson plan.
- Advanced learners are also accommodated. This is done by providing options for higher level work in the main lessons and workbooks.
- Visual and Written Structure:
- There are clear, predictable layouts that reduce anxiety issues.
- Simple icons/graphics and cues are used on sheets and pages to help with understanding.
- Sensory-Friendly Features:
- There are optional, hands-on components for sensory-seekers.
- Quiet activities are encouraged in the lessons for children who get overstimulated easily.
Tools for Supporting Parents
In addition to being inclusive of children who are neurodiverse, our curriculum also supports parents so that they can be successful in the instruction of the lesson plans. This is done through the following ways:
- Simplified Lesson Plans-
- The plans include step-by-step guidance to help make sure parents feel confident and organized.
- There are notes for how to adapt activities to each learner’s unique needs.
- Encouragement for Caregivers-
- The guidebook and lesson book offer tips and support for the challenges of homeschooling neurodivergent children.
- There are various reminders that every child’s academic journey and progress looks differently -and that is okay.
- The lessons are flexible in that they can be adjusted as needed and still provide a great education for children.
- Bonding- Built into the curriculum are the opportunities for bonding together through the activities.
